ابھی دونوں بہنیں ایک انجانی سی گھبراہٹ میں دروازے کی طرف دیکھ ہی رہی تھیں کہ اچانک ڈور بیل کی گھنٹی نے سناٹا چیر کر پورے گھر میں گونج پیدا کر دی۔

روح کے چہرے پر ایک ہلکی سی امید کی کرن اُبھری—ایسی کرن جو شاید کئی دنوں بعد اس کے چہرے پر نظر آئی ہو۔ وہ بچوں جیسی بےچینی کے ساتھ بھاگتی ہوئی دروازے کی طرف گئی، اور روش بھی اس کے پیچھے بھاگی، جیسے دونوں ایک ہی دل کی دھڑکن ہوں۔

دروازہ کھلتے ہی بارش کی تیز، ٹھنڈی ہوا روح کے چہرے سے ٹکڑائی۔ باہر موسلا دھار بارش ہو رہی تھی؛ پانی کی ہر بوند یوں گر رہی تھی جیسے آسمان بھی ان دو لاوارث بہنوں کے دکھ میں رو رہا ہو۔

دروازے کے بالکل نیچے ایک خوبصورت گفٹ باسکٹ رکھی تھی، جس پر پانی کے قطرے موتیوں کی طرح چمک رہے تھے۔

روح نے تجسس سے باسکٹ اٹھائی ہی تھی کہ—ایک چھتری پکڑے ہوئے شخص اس کے سامنے آکر کھڑا ہوا ۔۔۔13:-

لمبا قد، ہاتھوں میں سیاہ دستانے، اور سر پر گہری ٹوپی—وہ شخص دروازے کے سامنے کسی سائے کی طرح کھڑا تھا۔ ٹوپی اس قدر نیچی تھی کہ چہرہ مکمل طور پر اندھیرے میں چھپا ہوا تھا۔۔

اس کے ساتھ ایک اور شخص بھی تھا جو باہر دیوار کے پیچھے چھپا تھا ۔۔۔

روح اس کو دیکھ نہیں سکی ۔۔۔

وہ دروازے میں ہی کھڑی تھی ۔۔۔ جبکہ وہ دونوں دروازے کے باہر تھے ۔۔۔
