ناول میں ایک آرمی آفیسر بھی ہے، جو نہ صرف ملک سے محبت کرتا ہے بلکہ ایک لڑکی سے بھی جسے زمانے نے ٹھکرا دیا۔ وہ پانچ سال تک اس کی راہ تکتا رہا، محبت میں جیتا رہا۔ اور جب فوج اس محبت کا حق نہ دے سکی، تو اس نے وردی اتار دی—کیونکہ اس کے لیے محبت سب سے بڑی جنگ تھی۔
کہانی میں سب سے مضبوط کردار ایک ماں کا ہے، جو اس لڑکی کے ماضی کو دیکھنے کے بجائے، اس کے اندر کے انسان کو پہچانتی ہے۔ وہ اسے نہ صرف اپنی چھتری دیتی ہے بلکہ اسے معاشرتی عزت بھی واپس دلاتی ہے۔ ایسی مائیں ہی معاشرے کی اصل ہیرو ہوتی ہیں۔
