“یہ کون ہے؟”
میں نے پاس کھڑے ایک بوڑھے سے پوچھا۔
اس نے میری طرف دیکھا، پھر جنازے کی طرف، اور دھیمی آواز میں کہا:
“اگر تم جانتے ہوتے… تو پوچھتے نہیں۔”
وہ جواب دے کر آگے بڑھ گیا۔
میں دیر تک اس ایک جملے میں الجھا رہا۔
اگر جانتا ہوتا…؟
کیا میں اسے جانتا تھا؟
میرے ذہن میں ایک چہرہ ابھرا… مگر جیسے ہی میں نے اسے پہچاننے کی کوشش کی، وہ دھند میں تحلیل ہوگیا۔
یہ پہلی بار نہیں تھا۔
کئی مہینوں سے میری یادداشت میرے ساتھ عجیب کھیل کھیل رہی تھی۔
بعض چہرے پہچانے ہوئے لگتے، مگر نام اجنبی ہوتے۔
بعض آوازیں اپنی معلوم ہوتیں، مگر ان میں بولنے والا کوئی اور ہوتا۔
کبھی کبھی تو مجھے اپنے ہی بچپن کی ایک ایسی گلی یاد آتی جس میں میں کبھی رہا ہی نہیں۔
جنازہ میرے قریب سے گزرا۔
میرے قدم بےاختیار اس کے پیچھے اٹھ گئے۔
کسی نے مجھے روکا نہیں۔
شاید سب یہی سمجھ رہے تھے کہ میں بھی مرنے والے کا کوئی قریبی ہوں۔
اور شاید میں تھا بھی…
یا شاید نہیں۔
قبر تیار تھی۔
جنازہ نیچے اتارا گیا۔
مولوی صاحب دعا پڑھنے لگے، مگر میری سماعت جیسے کہیں اور چلی گئی۔
کسی نے بہت آہستہ میرے کان کے قریب کہا:
“تم دیر سے آئے ہو…”
میں فوراً پلٹا۔
میرے پیچھے کوئی نہیں تھا۔
صرف خالی ہوا…
اور چند سوکھے پتے جو زمین پر لڑھک رہے تھے۔
میرے ہاتھ ٹھنڈے ہونے لگے۔
دل کی دھڑکن بےترتیب ہو گئی۔
میں نے خود کو سمجھایا:
“یہ وہم ہے… صرف وہم…”
مگر پھر…
میں نے قبر کی طرف دیکھا۔
ایک لمحے کے لیے مجھے یوں محسوس ہوا جیسے کفن کے اندر موجود شخص نے آنکھیں کھول کر میری طرف دیکھا ہو۔
میں پلک جھپک بھی نہ سکا۔
اگلے ہی لمحے سب معمول کے مطابق تھا۔
شاید میرا ذہن پھر میرے ساتھ کھیل کھیل رہا تھا۔
لوگ واپس جانے لگے۔
میں وہیں کھڑا رہا۔
سب کے جانے کے بعد قبرستان پر عجیب سی خاموشی اتر آئی۔
اتنی گہری خاموشی کہ اپنی سانس کی آواز بھی اجنبی لگنے لگی۔
اچانک میری نظر قبر کے سرہانے لگے ایک چھوٹے سے پتھر پر پڑی۔
اس پر کوئی نام نہیں لکھا تھا۔
صرف ایک تاریخ…
مگر وہ تاریخ آج کی نہیں تھی۔
وہ تاریخ… کل کی تھی۔
میں دیر تک اسے دیکھتا رہا۔
پھر میرے ذہن میں ایک خیال بجلی کی طرح چمکا…
“اگر یہ شخص کل مرے گا…
تو آج اسے دفن کس نے کیا ہے؟”
