تمہاری شادی کے چار ماہ بعد تم مجھ سے ہزاروں میل دور چلی گئی۔ سات سمندر پار۔ میں چاہ کر بھی وہاں نہیں پہنچ سکتا تھا اور شاید یہ میرے حق میں بہتر ہی تھا۔ اگر میرے اندر کا سویا ہوا پاگل پن دوبارہ جاگ اٹھتا، تو کم از کم میں وسائل کی کمی کے باعث کوئی نئی حماقت تو نہ کر پاتا۔
تمہارا اس قدر دور ہونا میری روح میں ایک خلا پیدا کر گیا تھا۔ میں جب لاہور کی سڑکوں پر نکلتا، تو شہر کی رونقوں میں ایک عجیب سی کمی محسوس ہوتی، جیسے لاہور کا کوئی حصہ تمہارے ساتھ ہی ہجرت کر گیا ہو۔
کیا میں خوش تھا؟ ہاں، شاید میں نے اسی اذیت کو اپنا اوڑھنا بچھونا بنا لیا تھا۔ میں رب کا شکر گزار تھا کہ اس نے مجھے تمہارے وجود سے نہ سہی، تمہارے تصور سے تو نوازا ہے۔ تمہیں کھو دینے کا پچھتاوا اتنا نہیں تھا جتنا تمہاری نظروں میں گر جانے کا ملال تھا۔
میرے دل و دماغ کے کسی کونے میں بس ایک آخری حسرت باقی رہ گئی تھی۔
کاش تم صرف اتنا جان پاتی کہ وہ اسامہ، جس کے لیے تمہارے دل میں نفرت کے سوا کچھ نہیں، وہ آج بھی تمہیں پاگلوں کی طرح چاہتا ہے۔ میری سوچ کی پستی دیکھو کہ میں یہاں تک سوچ لیتا تھا کہ اگر کبھی تمہاری طلاق ہو گئی یا تم بیوہ ہو گئی (اللہ نہ کرے) تو شاید میں تمہیں اپنا لوں۔
مگر یہ ‘شاید’ بھی بس ایک سراب تھا کیونکہ حالات بدل چکے تھے، بس میرے اندر کی بزدلی نہیں بدلی تھی۔ میں تم سے براہِ راست بات کر سکتا تھا پر تمہارے سامنے آتے ہی میرے قدم ڈگمگا جاتے تھے۔ تم سے بات کرنے کی ہمت اب میرے بس میں نہ تھی۔ کوئی راستہ نہیں تھا کہ میں تمہیں بتا پاؤں کہ “ماہی! میں آج بھی تمہارے لیے اسی جنون میں مبتلا ہوں۔”
