لڑکی نے گاڑی میں بیٹھتے ہوئے کتابیں سنبھالنے کی کوشش کی، مگر بے دھیانی میں ان میں سے ایک کتاب سڑک پر جا گری۔ اسے شاید اس بات کا احساس تک نہ ہوا۔ گاڑی آگے بڑھ گئی اور چند ہی لمحوں میں ہجوم میں کہیں گم ہوگئی۔
جبل کی نگاہیں کچھ دیر تک اسی سمت جمی رہیں۔ پھر جیسے وہ کسی سحر سے باہر آیا ہو، اس کی نظر سڑک پر پڑی اُس تنہا کتاب پر جا ٹھہری۔
جبل کم گو انسان تھا۔ ضرورت سے زیادہ بولنا تو دور، وہ اجنبیوں کو روکنے کی زحمت بھی کم ہی کیا کرتا تھا۔ سو اس بار بھی اس نے گاڑی کے پیچھے جانے یا لڑکی کو آواز دینے کی کوشش نہ کی۔
بس خاموشی سے آگے بڑھا، جھک کر کتاب اٹھائی اور اپنی گاڑی میں جا بیٹھا۔
گاڑی اسٹارٹ کرنے سے پہلے اس نے کتاب پر ایک نظر ڈالی۔ سرورق پر کوئی نام نہیں تھا۔ تجسس کے باعث اس نے پہلا صفحہ کھولا۔
وہ کتاب نہیں، ایک ڈائری تھی۔
پہلے ہی صفحے پر سیاہ مارکر سے چند الفاظ لکھے تھے، جیسے کسی راز کا دروازہ کھولنے کے لیے بس یہی دو لفظ کافی ہوں۔

جبل نے اگلے چند صفحات پر سرسری سی نظر ڈالی۔ خوبصورت اور نفیس لکھائی سے پوری ڈائری بھری ہوئی تھی۔ نہ جانے کیوں اس نے دوبارہ پہلا صفحہ کھولا اور “داستانِ کوہِ نور” کے الفاظ پر انگلیاں پھیرنے لگا۔
اس کے دل کی دھڑکنیں بے اختیار تیز ہونے لگی تھیں۔ ایک عجیب سا احساس تھا۔جیسے اس ڈائری میں کوئی ان دیکھا سحر پوشیدہ ہو، جو اسے اپنی جانب کھینچ رہا تھا۔ وہ چاہ کر بھی اس کشش سے خود کو آزاد نہیں کر پا رہا تھا۔
گاڑی میں بیٹھتے ہی اس نے ڈائری پڑھنے کا ارادہ کر لیا۔
